Now is the perfect time to plant and prune trees. We have a large selection of trees available that are perfect for the North Texas climate.

Keep your property clean and clear of debris. We can prune your existing trees and large shrubs to enable healthy spring growth.



January

  • Time to plant trees (fall and winter are best).
  • Use Root Stimulator and Soil Conditioner when planting.
  • Prune trees and apply sealer to large cuts.
  • Be sure to water throughout the winter -- it helps protect from freeze damage.

February

  • Start pre-emergent program to keep weed seed from germinating. Amaze granules will take care of broadleaf and grassy type weeds.
  • Spray existing weeds with Round-Up or Finale (in Bermuda Grass.)
  • Test soil for spring planting prep.
  • Plant trees.
  • Feed trees and shrubs.
  • Be sure to water.

March

  • Add soil amendments to garden areas and flowerbeds.
  • Feed trees and shrubs (if not done in February).
  • Shop for best selection of spring bulbs. (Elephant Ears and Caladiums go fast!)
  • Check for Borer damage.
  • Watch for late freezes.
  • Plant Fescue seed late in the month.
  • Plant onion sets, garlic, potatoes, rhubarb and asparagus.
  • If needed, spray Dormant Oil.

April

  • Remember! Arbor Day is the last Friday in April.
  • Check soil temperature for seeding Bermuda (must be 68 degrees).
  • Apply grub control late in the month.
  • Sod will be available this month.
  • Spray Systemic for Pine Tip Moths.
  • Bedding plants arrive this month.

May

  • Use Systemic Fungicides on roses, vines, shrubs and grasses.
  • Fertilize spring bedding plants.
  • Discard standing water to prevent mosquito infestation.
  • Apply fertilizer to lawns.
  • Spray for Bag Worms.
  • Time to plant spring bulbs.
  • Spray any existing weeds.

June

  • Second round of Pre-Emergent.
  • Top dress beds to help keep weeds down and retain moisture as it gets hotter.
  • Add Bloom Start to Crepe Myrtles to promote longer bloom time.
  • Spray an existing weeds.

July

  • Use Bloom Set on Tomatoes to prevent shedding due to heat.
  • DO NOT apply high Nitrogen fertilizer to Fescue -- it will burn in the heat.
  • Give extra care and watering to trees and shrubs while weather is hot.
  • Plant summer color.

August

  • Watch for yellowing of turf grasses caused by a lack of iron.
  • Fungus may also cause yellowing and eventually death of turf grasses if not treated.
  • Watch for insects on trees and shrubs.

September

  • Third round of Pre-Emergent.
  • Plant Fescue seed late September through mid November.
  • Clean out beds and get ready for Pansies.
  • Plant Mums now.

October

  • Pick out spring bulbs -- they go fast!
  • Plant Pansies, Cabbage, Kale, Stock and Snapdragons for winter color.
  • Plant trees - be sure to use Root Stimulator and soil amendments.
  • Contact landscapers to get construction completed on ponds, patios and sprinkler systems.

November

  • Apply Winterizer and fertilizer to lawn.
  • Plant spring bulbs between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
  • Poinsettias arrive Thanksgiving week.
  • Live Christmas trees arrive by Thanksgiving weekend.
  • Plant trees.
  • Gift certificates available.

December

  • Water trees, shrubs and lawns.
  • Apply Dormant Oil. Plant trees.
  • Prune trees now through March.
  • Add fourth round of Pre-Emergent.
